Bringing the world of Anne of Green Gables into your own

About Ingleside Impressions

Want to know more about the Anne of Green Gables books? We specialize in helping readers learn more about 'Anne' and her creator, author L. M. Montgomery.

2008 was the 100th anniversary of the publication of one of the world's most beloved books, Anne of Green Gables. To celebrate this anniversary, Ingleside Impressions is pleased to offer a

 'Special Commemorative Edition'
of
The Anne of Green Gables Treasury.

In addition to the original material in the First Edition (published by Penguin Books Canada in 1991), this new edition contains a specially-designed tour of Prince Edward Island that will ensure that visitors to Anne's Island will not miss a single site significant to Anne of Green Gables and her author, L. M. Montgomery (the 'Bright River Station,' 'Mrs. Rachel's Lynde's' house, 'Ingleside,' 'Four Winds Harbour,' and many more Anne-sites, sites no Anne-fan would want to miss).

The Anne of Green Gables Treasury was written by Carolyn Strom Collins and Christina Wyss Eriksson to show readers more about Anne's world -- Prince Edward Island, Canada, in the late 1800s-early 1900s.  They wanted to share background information on Anne's author, more about Prince Edward Island, what Green Gables itself looked like (inside and out), how Anne lived her daily life -- what her one-room school was like (did you know Anne studied Latin and
Greek?); how her clothes looked and how they were cared for (did you know Anne wore bustles and corsets? or that Anne and Marilla had to do the laundry in a big pot on a wood-stove?); how to prepare some of Anne's favorite foods (and how to have a special 'Anne Tea-Party'); what some of Anne's favorite flowers looked like and how to grow them (Bouncing Bet, Scarlet Lightning, Rice Lilies and dozens more); and how to make some of the things Anne and Marilla, Diana and Mrs. Lynde made (crocheted lace edging for pillowcases and petticoats, potpourri, and - of course -  Anne's unforgettable flowered hat).

The success of The Anne of Green Gables Treasury led to two more Anne-related books:

The Anne of Green
Gables Christmas Treasury (how Anne celebrated Christmas and how today's readers can do some of the same things she did; there are also a few more modern activities such as making a Green Gables gingerbread house);

and

The Anne of
Green Gables Treasury of Days (a day-book with a quotation from the Anne books selected for each day of the year).

These books were also published by Penguin Books Canada.

More companion books on other classic favorites followed:  The Little Women Treasury (Penguin Books) and Inside the Secret Garden: The 'Secret Garden' Treasury (HarperCollins); and four companion books for Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House' series:  The World of Little House; Inside Laura's Little House: The Little House on the Prairie Treasury; My Little House Book of Crafts; and My Little House Book of Christmas Crafts (all published by HarperCollins).

Each 'Treasury' contains information on the author of the original book, a synopsis of the book or books, time-lines that show the reader what else was going on in the 'real world' during the period in which each book is set, how to do some of the crafts mentioned in the books, how to prepare some of the foods mentioned in the books, how to grow flowers the characters in the books loved, and much more to help readers enter the world of their favorite characters and to show them how to bring some of that world into their own.

Most of these books are now out-of-print but can often be found on the secondary market (auction sites, etc.).  Some can be ordered from Ingleside Impressions (while supplies last). A limited number of autographed copies are available. For more information, contact us at inglesideimpressions@gmail.com
